Dirk G. SoenksenDirk Soenksen has 20 years of experience in all aspects of corporate management. He has been involved in three prior start-up ventures, most recently as vice president/GM at Applied Spectral Imaging, where he was instrumental in raising both private and venture capital. Prior to that, Mr. Soenksen spent six years in product development at GEC-Marconi. He has a proven record of identifying markets for new technologies and holds a number of patents related to microscope-based diagnostics.

Ole EichhornOle Eichhorn has more than 25 years of experience as a software engineer, architect, and manager. He has been involved in three prior start-up ventures, including PayPal, where he served as vice president/engineering; Intuit, where he was GM of Intuit's web finance subsidiary; and Digital Insight, where he held the position of vice president/engineering. Prior to that, he was vice president/development and director of technology for XP Systems.

Richard MiddelbergRichard Middelberg has more than 18 years of business and financial management experience. He joined Aperio from dj Orthopedics, Inc., where he was vice president and general manager of the consignment inventory and insurance billing division. Previously he was chief financial officer of Global Digital Commerce.com, and co-founder of Medical Center Management, Inc., a start-up outpatient radiology venture. Mr. Middelberg received an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School. He is also a C.P.A.

Jared N. Schwartz, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Medical Officer

Jared Schwartz Dr. Schwartz brings 30 years of pathology expertise to his role as CMO, most recently serving as President of the College of American Pathologists, and Director of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Presbyterian Healthcare in Charlotte, North Carolina. Board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with subspecialty boards in medical microbiology and cytopathology, he is a graduate of Duke University Medical School, where he completed his residency and fellowship training, and served as chief resident. He was appointed to the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee by HHS, and was a co-chair and author of the ASCO/CAP Guidelines on HER2, which was published in the January 2007 editions of the Journal of Clinical Oncology and Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. He is currently a co-chair and one of the co-authors of the ASCO/CAP Guidelines on ER/PR, which will be published in both journals in 2010.

Martin StuartMartin Stuart has more than 18 years of experience in international sales and marketing management, and product development. Prior to joining Aperio, Dr. Stuart was vice president of sales and services for Entropia Inc., a desktop grid computing company focused on the Life Sciences market. He has also served as vice president, business development and vice president, sales and marketing for Tripos Inc. a multi-faceted discovery research organization serving the pharmaceutical and biotech market. Previous positions include an extensive scientific tenure with the 3M Company.

Kevin Whiteley, M.B.A., Vice President of Customer Relations

Kevin WhiteleyKevin Whiteley has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare marketing, sales, management, and business development. Mr. Whiteley came to Aperio from XOFT Inc., a breast irradiation oncology start-up, where he was responsible for marketing operations and commercialization activities for a radiation system to hospitals and oncology treatment centers. He has also held key posts at R2Technology Inc., a medical imaging company focused on computer aided detection solutions, Alaris Medical Systems, and the McGaw Division of American Hospital Supply Corporation specializing in intravenous and drug delivery systems. Mr. Whiteley holds a B.S., business administration (marketing), from the University of Arizona (Tucson), as well as an M.B.A. in marketing and finance.

Kathy Zirker-Smith, M.B.A., Vice President, Strategic Initiatives

Kathy Zirker-SmithKathy Zirker-Smith has over 15 years of experience in strategic development for health care companies. Prior to joining Aperio, she ran a consulting practice focused on strategic planning, marketing strategy, and business development for companies in health care device, software, distribution, services, and marketing. She has held positions in strategic development at iMcKesson, McKesson Corporation, Kaiser Permanente, and APM (now CSC). She holds a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Texas, a Diploma (Graduate Degree) in International Business Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science and an MBA from the Haas School at the University of California at Berkeley.
