VISTA, CA – June 8, 2005 – Aperio Technologies, the leading provider of microscope slide scanners and Digital Slide Information Management Software for pathology, announced today that Image-Pro, the widely used image analysis software from MediaCybernetics, is now compatible with Aperio's algorithm framework. Users now can automatically run Image-Pro analytics on entire digital slides directly from ImageScope, Aperio's digital slide viewing and analysis software. "This integration represents a natural synergy," said Ole Eichhorn, chief technology officer at Aperio. "ScanScope Systems deliver entire-slide digital images of the highest quality and an ability to automate entire-slide image analysis for large numbers of slides, and Image-Pro offers nearly limitless analytical capabilities. By combining the two, pathology customers gain a huge boost in their analytical work, without additional effort." Users of the integrated solution develop and test Image-Pro analytical algorithms and macros just as they usually do within the Image-Pro interface. Once the user is ready to analyze a digital slide, the ScanScope interface readily enables application of the Image-Pro macro to the entire slide, to user-selected regions of the slide, or even to a batch of slides. Analyzing the entire slide area, pathologists save time and gain information about the entire slide, versus obtaining data from only a small field of analysis, a region which is unlikely to be representative of the entire slide. Aided by the ability to automate the scanning and analysis of large quantities of slides, entire-slide image analysis has the potential to dramatically speed the analytical process, while also delivering better results. "We are pleased to extend our unique entire-slide processing capabilities to Image-Pro, the leading image analysis software" said Dirk Soenksen, chief executive officer of Aperio. "As the leader in digital slide creation, we consider that this effort with Media Cybernetics underscores our commitment to continue to innovate, keeping our customers at the forefront of virtual microscopy." Virtual microscopy is the practice of converting entire glass microscope slides to high resolution digital slides-entire-slide images that can be remotely viewed, quantitatively analyzed, and readily annotated, shared and managed, all without a traditional microscope. Aperio's line of ScanScope Systems delivers automated high-speed digital slide creation, management, and analysis for pathology. Archival and retrieval, education, quality assurance, frozen section interpretation, secondary consultations, and entire-slide image analysis are all improved with the ScanScope System.
