Aperio and CAP Foundation to Host Fourth Annual Conference
Vista, CA – August 18, 2008 – The uses for digital pathology continue to grow across a broad spectrum of applications from education, research, and clinical to highly sophisticated applications in all phases of drug discovery. Aperio, a global leader in digital pathology systems and services for the healthcare and life sciences industry, and CAP Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), invite interested pathology professionals to join them for the fourth annual Pathology Visions conference to be held October 26-28 in San Diego, CA, at the Manchester Grand Hyatt.
Every year, Pathology Visions brings together the world’s leading practitioners and thought leaders of digital pathology for a showcase of best practices, cutting-edge presentations, and the very latest in digital pathology technology and applications. Registrants will participate in two days of multi-track educational sessions covering the latest topics in digital pathology, stimulating discussions and workshops, and the Visions Exhibit Hall, in which product solutions by numerous vendors in the industry will be showcased. Conference registration will also include admission to a special after-hours dinner event aboard the USS Midway, docked in the San Diego harbor, on Monday evening.
Richard C. Friedberg, M.D., Ph.D. Chairman, Department of Pathology, Baystate Health and John C. Reed, M.D., Ph.D., President & CEO, Burnham Institute for Medical Research will serve as keynote speakers for the conference.
Dr. Friedberg has over 20 years of international experience in biotechnology, clinical and diagnostic testing, molecular biology, including 10 years of bench research experience at Stanford University, Duke University, and the National Institute for Medical Research (London, UK). He currently serves as Chairman, Department of Pathology, Baystate Health, Springfield, MA; Medical Director, Baystate Reference Laboratories; and Professor and Deputy Chairman, Department of Pathology, Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, MA.
Dr. Reed leads several drug discovery efforts at the Burnham Institute, including serving as director of the National Center for Chemical Library Screening based at Burnham, and director of the Cancer Drug Discovery Group sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). He currently serves on the editorial boards of over 12 scientific journals, as an advisor and consultant to numerous biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, and is the scientific co-Founder of three biotechnology companies.
